In the 2nd half of the 13th century, the area became a part of the Pomezanian bishop’s property. In 1365, the chapter granted the village Russenow with 672 ha of land to Jakub (67 ha belonged to a free village leadership under the Chełm Law. The villagers were obliged to dig drainage ditches. In 1389, the chapter granted to the village leader an island on the Vistula, situated across from the village. In 1394, the chapter granted to the village a place for building of a windmill. A parish was known to be there in the 15th century. Burdens caused by obligatory works on the floodbanks prompted resistance of the inhabitants. The population of the Teutonic Knights’ village Wełcz did not take care of the floodbanks in the upper part of the river, which was why in 1446, bishop Kaspar stated to the Grand Master that the inhabitants of the marshland would not render labour outside of the bishop’s property. In the years 1593-1618, the lessee of Rusinowo was Stefan Loytz, son of king Zygmunt August’s banker. The Swedish wars and lack of care of the floodbanks caused frequent flooding of fields and meadows, thus diminishing the area of the arable land. In 1719, only 336 ha and 3.5 acres of land were under cultivation in Rusinowo. The settlers used the land under an emphyteusis law. In 1910, 556 persons lived here.

A village arranged in rows, situated on the right bank of the Vistula, in the southern part of the Kwidzym lowlands, about 20 km south of Kwidzyn.

The cultural landscape has been preserved in a good condition. The original layout of roads, settlements and fields can be clearly seen today.
